RIP DJ AM: What the Stars Say

The popular disc jockey AM was found dead in his New York apartment around 5 PM on Friday, August 28, 2009. I cast an astrology horoscope for this time to try and understand the circumstances surrounding his unfortunate premature death.

In an event chart the individual inquired about is shown by the Ascendant or 1st house and its ruling planet. Capricorn was rising and its ruler, Saturn, was at 22 degrees Virgo in the 8th house. The cusp of the 8th house is 29 degrees Leo. I will publish the chart graphic soon.

Both placements are testimony to a death. The 8th house, as well as Saturn, rule death, and 29 degrees of Leo on this house are a critical degree, showing it was too late to effect any change in the matter. 29 degrees Leo is also the placement of the fixed star Regulus, which signifies a tragic event, one which may command a great deal of publicity.

The planets also show that AM was not in a good frame of mind on this day. The Moon is entering the 12th house of sorrow and self-undoing. Mars in the 6th house of sickness has just completed opposition to Pluto, also in the 12th house. Mars is also in an incompatible sign, Cancer, showing that DJ was behaving under emotional duress and this led to poor, and ultimately fatal, judgment on his part. Mercury in Libra is square to Mars in the unfortunate 6th house; his thinking and behavior were impulsive, with fatal consequences.

The chart has Venus in Leo in the 7th house, which separates from conjunction with the South Node, another unfortunate star placement showing loss. AM had a love interest which had ended recently, and the chart shows he still held onto some attachment to this person. Since Venus is in Leo I believe she was an artist, performer or creative person of some kind who did not fully reciprocate his affections.

As of this writing no cause of death has been given. I did this chart immediately after finding out about his death, hoping to discover what may have happened. The news report mentioned that an empty crack bag was found near his body, so I am thinking he OD'ed, whether intentionally or not. He was in a down frame of mind, and may have sought consolation by smoking crack, his admitted drug of choice.

Last thing I wonder about is AM's ruler Saturn in 22 degrees Virgo. This is the identical placement of a malevolent fixed star which rules "assassins." But whether AM's death was intentional or accidental, it is still a huge loss for AM's many fans. Rest in Peace DJ AM!

The coroner's ruling was death by accidental drug overdose.   A sad ending to a promising career.  In the chart AM had Capricorn rising, so he was very career-oriented.  Unfortunately he didn't choose his career over his fondness for drugs. and it cost him and the rest of us dearly.
